If your landscape paintings feel a little flat, this workshop will help you create a real sense of depth and atmosphere. We’ll explore how colour, values, and mark-making work together to add dimension, as well as how the eye perceives scale, perspective, and composition.
With step-by-step guidance, you’ll learn practical techniques to make your landscapes feel more lifelike, all while experimenting with oils in a relaxed and supportive setting.
This workshop is ideal for beginners and improvers who want to develop their oil painting skills. Whether you’re trying oils for the first time or looking to refine your technique, come along and enjoy a creative and inspiring day of painting!
Mark-Making Techniques: Experiment with different marks and textures to bring your scenes to life.
Seeing the Landscape: Understand how we visually interpret landscapes—and how to use that in your compositions.
Working with Scale & Composition: Use perspective, size, and placement to create depth and balance.
Creating Depth with Tone: Discover how tone can give your painting a real sense of space and distance.
All materials provided
Suitable for ages 16+
Tea, coffee and cake will be available throughout the evening.
No experience necessary. This workshop is perfect for beginners.
Please bring old clothes or an apron - painting can get messy!
Long stay parking is available a short walk from the studio (Court Street Car Park: Parking charges apply)

Textiles Illustration

Textiles is a versatile medium, great for creating artwork as well as embellishing home furnishings and clothing. In this workshop you will learn to use appliqué, basic embroidery stitches and beading to create your own decorative fabric cupcake illustration.

Pointillism in Acrylics

Pointillism is defined by its use of mark making and colour. Pointillism paintings are created from hundreds of dots of carefully placed pure colours, relying on the eye to mix the colours to achieve maximum luminosity, in a similar way to pixels on a screen.
Learn how to use reds, blues and yellows to create the whole spectrum of colours. In this workshop we will look at basic colour theory, pigment strength and colour mixing before going on to create a colourful acrylic painting to take away with you.

Get started with Oil Paints

Starting out with Oils can be a daunting prospect, but with just a few basics you can unlock the potential of this rich and exciting medium.
In this beginners workshop we will be getting to grips with oil painting. You will gain understanding of the paints, learn about colour mixing and basic application techniques, and receive step-by-step guidance in creating your own still life painting.

Mastering Reflections | Large Scale Charcoal Drawing

In this workshop we will be getting messy with large-scale charcoal drawings.
Working at A1 in scale we will be looking at reflection and the refraction of light on glass as well studying the way in which glass objects interact with positive and negative space.
