Watercolours | Layers, Colours & Depth
@ Cockington Court, Torquay Sunday 15th November, 11:00-16:30 Full Day £79
This full day workshop takes place at the beautiful Cockington Court in Torquay and is suitable for beginners and improvers. It focuses on the use of transparent watercolour layers to build rich, luminous colour, exploring how glazing and careful layering can create depth, tone and interesting colour relationships within a painting.
You will begin the day exploring how watercolour behaves when applied in layers, looking at how transparent washes can be built up gradually to increase saturation and develop stronger tones. We will consider how much colour to apply at each stage and how allowing each layer to dry can give you greater control over the final result.
We will then experiment with colour glazing, placing different transparent colours over one another to create richer tones and more complex shadows. You will explore how colours can be combined on the page rather than mixed on the palette, and how this can create subtle variations and depth within your work.
As the day progresses, you will bring these techniques together in a finished watercolour painting, using layers and glazing to develop colour, shadows and atmosphere. Guidance and demonstrations will be provided throughout, making this a supportive and practical workshop for developing your watercolour skills.
All materials are provided.
Course Highlights
Layering Watercolour: Learn how transparent washes can be built up gradually to increase colour saturation.
